But What about the Cows, Sir McCartney?

”There is an urgent need for action to protect kangaroos from a barbaric industry which slaughters them for meat and leather. Please do all you can to help Viva! end this shameful massacre.”
- Sir Paul McCartney, at savethekangaroo.com

Yes, cows.

Oh, you ceti-anthropo-fundamentalist you, Mr. Garrett.

Rather than kill the kangaroos, I'd like them to be relocated.
As we Europeans have destroyed a lot of Australian fauna by unwisely importing European species in order to 'feel at home', we should take these unwanted kangaroos and let them loose in our verdant prairies. That would be fun. Maybe they would be able to punch a few drunk hunters in the face.

Oh and, yes, let’s also compare the number of kangaroos culled to the number of kangaroos road-killed, and ban all trafic above 30km/h. Thanks for your attention.

Now you're being inconsistent with your preservationist self, Sophie. Each year, millions of kangaroos are killed in Australia. Those 400 kangaroos make great copy, but are immaterial in the great picture of things.

More broadly, even if we all became vegans, our impact on the ecosystem is such that we cannot escape wholesale slaughter of motive lifeforms. Death is an essential part of life. The difficulties of living with this awareness and rising above it all is at the heart of Buddhism. But that's a very long story that I'm not qualified to tell.

As you said somewhere else, I was being sarcastic here. Next time I will add emoticons ^_^.
