I kind of sympathize; every Swedish language student I've met seem to wish it wasn't.
No, actually; the languages are close enough to be utterly confusing, but not so close that you can avoid having to study grammar and vocabulary just like any language. Being able to understand much of the basics helps, of course but I think it's a wash, overall.

But it gives lazy Norwegian and Danish students an easy way to fulfill their language study requirements, no?
