A New Excuse for That Midnight Snack

“Because it’s good for you.”

Money quote: “A low thigh circumference seems to be associated with an increased risk of developing heart disease or premature death.”

Real money qoute:

"A threshold effect for thigh circumference was evident, with greatly increased risk of premature death below around 60 cm. Above the threshold there seemed to be no additional benefit of having larger thighs in either sex."

"The adverse effects of small thighs might be related to too little muscle mass in the region."

The likely take home message: If you're thin enough that your thighs indicates muscle mass, then thigh circumference is a good measure of your level of exercise. Low circumference thus indicates little or no exercise and the resulting risk of heart disease.

If you're chubby already, then thigh circumference can't tell you anything, since the measure can't distinguish fat and muscle mass.

You've turned this into a public service announcement.

I’m sorry Jun, you seem to have overlooked the reference to muscle in the article. Your title should have been "A New Excuse for That Midday Cycle Journey". Which is a delicious moment. ^_^
