If you are an anime fan, google Natsume Yujincho and you’ll get all four
seasons of 13 episode each—a remarkable feat in of itself since the vast
majority struggle to survive two. And if you can read Portuguese subtitles, you
don’t even have to know Japanese.

Heck, you can watch anime within a day of it being aired in Japan with English subtitles for some of the more popular ones. The whole fansubbing thing is very efficient.

True. But don't they tend to disappear over time, particularly on YouTube? The complete Natsume Yujincho cycle, at least, appears to be available in its entirety only with Portuguese subtitles.
On Youtube certainly, but a quick check up of some of the usual fansub-posting sites reveals that you can still download all four seasons with English subs--along with virtually every other major anime of the past few years. It's a copyright wild west out there...admittedly I can't speak for everyone but of the people who watch anime that I know and have seen, most go for the downloads.
John:
That's useful information for anyone who needs English subtitles...not that I'm encouraging what surely must be illegal uploading.
